Look at any product on your supermarket shelf. Every one of these has a weight printed on the packaging. The check weigher weighs these products so the consumer will know that they are getting the exact amount of product that they are paying for. Check weighing is also very common in a variety of automated manufacturing operations. Since a machine can’t “see”, a check weigh system will verify that all the components are represented in a total weight of an automatically manufactured part. Check weighers can weigh while the product is in motion on a conveyor at speeds up to 700 items per minute. Typically found at the end of a production process, the check weigher usually consists of an in feed belt, a weigh belt and an out feed belt with alternatives for rejected parts. The load cells used in this application must have extremely fast settling time and superior accuracy. The associated electronics typically incorporate customized algorithms and sophisticated vibration filtering.
